Gopher snakes are preferred in areas with high grass, thick brush, and hide in many places in vivo in California, and when I walk in the mountains, almost always reports a squirrel found in the vicinity of dry grass and hollow.

Gopher Snakes, also known as Bull snakes are found) in hot, dry habitats (deserts, grasslands and open forests. They prefer areas with hot summers and are usually in open areas with little shade to be found. Unfortunately, they are usually in rural areas and less in the desert. : (
Gopher snakes can be found in the yards of earth with the activities of the squirrels. They spend most of their time underground, and often lay their eggs in old rodent construction.
They also share their nesting sites from time to time with other snakes of different species.
Please note that gopher snakes may be mistaken for rattlesnakes because their colors and a whistle, which often imitated the whistle warning of a rattlesnake coiling and skills. Even the vibrations of the tip of the tail on the grass and leaves, in addition to imitation of a rattlesnake. But do not worry, they are not poisonous. :)
